I feel like I've been giving a way most of what we own. It's not really true, there's just a lot of big stuff we're getting rid of so that we don't have to store it for the next few years. The one sad part is that Rogue is one of the things we've had to find a new home for. She goes there on Wednesday. We'll sure miss her!
We got Moana and the boys love it! I also finally fixed Caleb's bike tires and bought him a new helmet, so he's a happy guy.
After raising a lot of money for the Canadian Cancer Society through a fun fundraising idea, I held up my end of the bargain and currently am rocking teal hair. Luckily, my 3 weeks with it will be up at the end of this month and I can dye it back before the move, ha ha.
Sadly, the Oilers were done in the playoffs after round 2. It's a sore topic up here in Oil Country because of 'certain people and events' involved in a couple of the games, but I'm looking forward to them having another good run next year.
We went to visit my mum for Mother's Day. I woke up in a lot of pain and it continued throughout the day. *sigh* back spasms. I did get treated to a wonderful breakfast of bacon, hashbrowns and eggs, though. The boys gave me a few fun and cute items. I also decided that next year I'll end my annual boycott of Mother's Day and actually go to church that Sunday. (side note - Mother's Day is always my hard day of the year as a birth mother)
John and I went to IKEA for a supper date this evening. Today is 12 years since we first met at church. I still feel like the luckiest person in the world for getting to be his wife!

April
We started April off with General Conference. We spent that Saturday with our friends watching it at their house, which was a great time.
That week we met with the boys' school facilitator in a meeting that went very well. Ty is reading at a grade 4 level (he just finished grade 3) and Brettley's reading for just finishing grade 1 was extremely good. I am so thrilled with what they accomplished this year. It may very well be the best year I'll ever have with them. We grew so much closer as a family. No regrets!
We had a nasty bout of croup and colds go through our house. We mostly avoided illnesses this year since they were home schooled, but this one snuck through and did a number on those poor boys, and then on me.
We had a major shakeup here in the Edmonton LDS area. A fifth stake was created. Our ward was moved from one stake to another. The man who was our bishop when we first moved to this ward is now our new Stake President. He is definitely a man willing to let Heavenly Father work through him, I felt instantly that it was an inspired calling.
Our hockey team, the Oilers, made it to the playoffs for the first time since I was pregnant with Caleb. Game nights have become a big thing in our house as of late.
We went to spend some time at my sister-in-law's while her kids were on Easter Break. It was the best time ever! The kids had so much freedom there, my anxiety was better than it has been in many, many years and we all had a blast. As a fun story, I decided to drive part of the way there. That was the first time I'd driven in years. I felt pretty good, but the sun set just before we were passing through Fort McLeod and the town was experiencing a black out. It was so nerve wracking and, of course, the one pedestrian I managed to encounter was wearing all black. I made it about 5 minutes past the town before I had to pull over and let John drive again. Driving through the black out shook me up just a bit too much, but heck. I did it! I drove again!
I also managed to get hooked on herbal iced tea. Yum!
And for our last bit of news for April, we announced that we are FINALLY making the move to Southern Alberta. Most people who know us have known that this has been our eventual plan ever since we were still engaged. We knew back in February that it was supposed to happen and after countless prayers, many people fasting and a few visits to the temple, we felt strongly prompted to make a move of faith. John's permanent address will be down there with us, but he will stay with my dad and still work up in Edmonton until the job issue works itself out. This is the scariest thing we've ever done (and probably will ever do). Our moving day is June 17th and we are extremely excited, nervous, scared and many other things. But we know this is the right plan for our family and are looking forward to our new adventure. The boys will be attending the local school there in the fall, which we are all excited about. But we really want John to be with us down there as quickly as possible, so please, please, please keep us in your prayers.
And that's our April :)

March
We did some major decluttering in our house this month. No room was ignored. We got rid of so much stuff. It was astonishing how many things we've accumulated over the years. We still have a lot, but the amount was reduced significantly.
I read some James L. Ferrell books. They were amazing. I borrowed them from a friend and definitely plan to get my own copies at some point. I learned so much from them and would highly recommend them.
My Relay for Life team reached its goal this month, which was really exciting. I reached over double of my initial personal goal. I'm really looking forward to taking part in this in May.
John and I took the boys to the Telus World of Science for a day. They had a blast. We checked out the Angry Birds exhibit. Ty and Brettley had fun in Discoveryland and Caleb enjoyed the Robotics Lab. It was a fun family day.
I'm pretty sure that was where Brettley picked up his croup from. All 3 boys ended up with it, but Brettley's came first and was the worst by far. He had to miss several swimming lessons because of it.
We took the boys to go see the temple. We love being there and feeling the spirit just walking on the grounds. That was where I'd told John that I knew I was supposed to marry him. The boys really enjoyed hearing that story during our trip.
I started watching hockey, which has prompted a lot of texting between my step-dad and I. A few days ago our team, the Edmonton Oilers, clinched a spot in the playoffs. This will be their first time in the playoffs since I was pregnant with Caleb, when we went for the Stanley Cup, so we're super excited.
The boys finished school this month! They worked so hard and finished their curriculum early last week. They still have some things we plan on having them work on over the summer, a bit of extra work to strengthen their weaker areas, but they are technically done their 2016-2017 school year and finished before Edmonton Public kids even went of spring break. I also put their portfolios for the year together and they are ready for the facilitator visit next week.
Yesterday was my late father-in-law's birthday. We had our annual tradition of having some sort of cake to celebrate. This year was cheesecake.
The boys also finished their swimming lessons yesterday. Caleb was the only one who passed, so he'll move up to Swim Kids 4. Ty just has to work on his distance. Brettley, well, we knew going in that he would take a few different rounds of lessons to pass. Swimming coordination is not his forte. They had so much fun, though, which is great!
Well, that's about it for this month, I think.

February Pt 2
The boys and I spent my dad's birthday with him. We did a bit of school first, they played outside and a few games of chess were played. My dad thanked us a few times for spending the day with him. I'm so glad we were able to make that happen (gotta love home school).
I registered to do Relay for Life in May in my home town. I'll be walking in memory of my late father-in-law, who passed away 5 years ago (this month) from pancreatic cancer. I will also be walking in celebration of my mother who is a thyroid cancer survivor. One my my fundraisers is people buying votes to see what colour I have to do my hair in. The amount I raised for that determines how long I have to keep the colour for. The colour currently in the lead is teal.
Brettley had his post-op appointment and gets to stay glasses free for the next 3 months. We'll see from there what he needs.
We went down to southern AB to visit John's family and be there for our nephew's mission report in church. He just spent 2 years serving in the Arizona Mesa Mission. We loved being down there with his family. I didn't have a single anxiety attack while we were down there, it was the most refreshing feeling. We came back with an extra body. My niece stayed up here with us for a week. I was so happy having her here. She's great! We introduced her to Dungeons & Dragons and bought her first set of gaming dice for her, ha ha.
Caleb and I have started decluttering our house big time. We're about half way done. We have several bags and boxes of things to give away or sell and have thrown out about two dozen bags of garbage. It amazes me how much junk we've accumulated over the past (almost 6) years in this particular home. I'm looking forward to having less things to worry about cleaning :)
Well, that's about all that I have to talk about right now. Hope your March is going well so far!

February Part 1
A while back Caleb and Brettley moved Ty in with them, so we had a room that wasn't doing anything. The boys and I talked together and decided we wanted a designated school room. So thanks to John and a few friends, we took out the bed that was in there and moved the desks, bookcase and organizers to our new school room. I like having it a lot more than I liked being in the living room or in the dining room.
My friend decided that she wasn't letting me miss out on a concert I was so disappointed to miss last time, so we got our tickets to Queen + Adam Lambert for July. I am very excited to go with her.
I had a few setbacks with my mental health, but I also had a few victories as well, which is awesome. I braved Costco and was able to get through all 3 hours of church the other weekend. Those are major wins after how tough things have been.
This past week John and I went on a double date with our friends to (finally) see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I loved it. They did an amazing job and it was so refreshing to go in to that movie with no expectations from reading the book first.
The boys and I have also been rewatching the Harry Potter movies since Caleb and Tyrell and both reading the books for free reading during school.
Brettley turned 6 years old on Saturday. The day before he went on his special outting with Grandma and Grandpa to West Edmonton Mall. They went mini golfing, had lunch, went to the Disney store and a few other things. For his birthday he got night vision goggles, beginner Snap Circuits, Classic Lego, money, a lego tank kit, and a Batman shirt.
Brettley has grown so much since he was born 7 weeks early. It's hard to remember now that I was terrified of him when he was first born. He was so tiny and I was so scared I'd somehow manage to break him. Mind you, all of the wires he had that I needed to navigate didn't help much. He is now the sweetest little guy with such a kind heart. He loves the colour red, pizza, PAW Patrol, Frozen and trains. He has taken to reading like a fish to water. I am so impressed with how easily he learns new things. I sure love him. He was the best surprise I've ever had.

January 2017
I started my month with an allergic reaction. I jokingly attributed it to the carbon tax because the timing was just too good. Our best guess is that I actually have a slight allergy to cats. Who knew?
Caleb spent several days at my mum and step-dad's house. He got to go sledding a few times and caught a brook trout while ice fishing. He also learned to sew and helped to make himself a blanket that folds up into a pillow. He was so proud of himself.
We switched over from Telus to Shaw after a long time of being frustrated with the service we were getting from Telus. We're pretty happy with the switch.
Ty has started wanting to help cook suppers. He actually does a great job and I love his enthusiasm. He made Egg Roll Bowl almost entirely by himself and it was delicious.
The boys each got some penpals this month. Most of the penpals are other kids who do home school, but we have a couple of Utah penpals now too. We love that family in Utah!
True to my goal, I've been playing some games with the kids. Ty beat me in Lord of the Rings Monopoly. I was very shocked, I don't lose at that game very often. All of our practice is helping Caleb become better at handling disappointment, which is wonderful.
Brettley had his third strabismus surgery on the 23rd. He had a great attitude at the hospital right until he was given anesthetic. He woke up very miserable, though. After a while he had a "magic" Popsicle, which helped turned things around a bit. He is healing slowly but surely and hopefully his eye won't be red soon enough.
We received an amazing gift from my sister and her boyfriend. The bought our family a year's membership to the Telus World of Science. We couldn't go yesterday or this next Saturday, so we're going to go on Brettley's birthday the weekend after. Our plan is to go once per month. I feel so blessed and cried when we got that gift.
I was very active online for #BellLetsTalk day this year. I ripped open a lot of wounds to be very honest and raise awareness and help pave the way for others to be willing to talk about their mental health. It wasn't an easy day with dredging it all up, but I had many people tell me that it meant a lot to them, and that made it 100% worth it.
Caleb finished his grade 5 science work and asked for a grade 6 workbook, so we're waiting for that to come in the mail. Brettley finished up his social studies, science and math, so we're focusing solely on language arts now with him for core subjects. Ty finished his language arts, which he was thrilled about. He'll finish up science this week. It's amazing how fast they finish things when they don't have all of that busy work. It will give us more time to focus on strengthening the areas where they struggle.
That's basically been our month. I figure if I do this at least once a month then I will have the basics on here even if I don't get much else.

Q&A about 2016
C did this on her blog and I really liked it, so I'm stealing it :)
1) What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before?
I started home schooling my kids, I taught one of my kids how to read, I buzzed all of my hair off (twice, actually) and I made an impromptu trip with just John.
2) Did you keep your new year's resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I didn't keep mine, I'm horrible for that. This year, I have a goal to play more games with my kids and to work toward being healthier (exercise and food).
3) Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not super close, no.
4) Did anyone close to you die?
No, I've had a few years off from that, thankfully.
5) What countries did you visit?
None, we stayed here in Canada. We didn't even leave our province, ha ha.
6) What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
A healthier lifestyle.
7) What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 25th. That was the day I woke up with pink eye, found out the government had cancelled the accreditation for the boys' home education administration and also found out that John was being moved to 4 day work weeks the next month.
Also, Ty's baptism on November 12th.
8) What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Home educating my kids and prioritizing my health above my wants and commitments.
9) What was your biggest failure?
I don't know that I'd call anything a failure, they were all learning experiences.
10) Did you or someone close suffer illness or injury?
John was diagnosed with diabetes and I had a really tough year mental health-wise.
11) What was the best thing you bought?
My Star Wars laptop. It was the only laptop I could find that had all of the (3) things I wanted out of a laptop. It's been a huge help with home schooling.
12) Where did most of your money go?
Rent and groceries, same as always. Recreation money, most of it went toward stuff for Dungeons and Dragons, which John and I play with our groups about twice per month.
13) What song will always remind you of 2016?
It actually wasn't a stand out year for me with music, so I don't have one.
14) Compared the this time last year are you more happy or more sad?
So much more happy. This time last year was when everything hit a boiling point with Caleb, so I was pretty much a wreck and terrified that we wouldn't find a better solution for him. A year later and he's doing amazing!
15) What do you wish you'd done more of?
More time just playing with my kids and teaching them more life skills, which are a few of the things I'm trying to focus on this year. I also wish I'd blogged more, since it's basically our family journal.
16) What do you wish you'd done less of?
Less eating as a coping mechanism and less time spent on social media.
17) How did you spend Christmas?
We were at home for the morning, went to Church and then had my dad over for supper.
18) What was your favourite TV program?
I enjoyed Psych and Switched at Birth a lot in 2016.
19) What were your favourite books of the year?
2016 was probably my worst year ever for reading since I started reading at the age of 4. Nothing at all is standing out to me.
20) What were your favourite treats/food in 2016?
Miss Vickie's Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar Chips, Egg Roll Bowl and Bacon Cheeseburger Skillet
21) What were your favourite movies of the year?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Hands down!
22) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I turned 32. We took a break from school that day. Caleb and I binge watched Gilmore Girls together, which was exactly how I'd wanted to spend the day.
23) What one thing would have made your year measurably more satisfying?
Not struggling with severe anxiety for the majority of the year.
24) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
If it fits and it's comfy then we're good, ha ha.
25) What kept you sane?
Those chips, John, Caleb and home schooling.
26) What was a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016?
It's okay to prioritize your mental health above what you want and things that you've said you would do.
I also learned that if something is the right choice for you and/or your family, Heavenly Father will help you do things you never thought you could do. I am one of the most impatient people I've ever met and thought I'd never be able to home school my kids because of it, but Heavenly Father always gives me what I need to make it work for us.
